A Day trip to Protestor Falls

🌎 3h 15 from Brisbane

🚗 Car

⭐ 4/5 day trip

I found Protester falls through really random circumstances, but it became one of my favourite day trip destinations. A friend & I were staying in Byron Bay & we had organised to go sea kayaking. That morning, we trekked it to the beach in the rain & it was cancelled due to bad weather, big sad.

We asked one of the people that was working what we could do instead & he explained there was a huge waterfall about an hour or so outside of Byron. We went home got warm, grabbed the car & picked up our new friend on the way. He forgot to mention that the last 1km or so was dirt track with potholes the size of my front tyre.

Long story short it was one of the most amazing waterfalls I have seen, ever. Closely tied with the Takakkaw falls in Yoho National Park, Canada. The size of it alone is impressive enough but you can also swim in it & the rock formation is stunning. Triple win!

I have also taken a day trip from Brisbane, for any of my Brisbane babes I highly suggest this day trip! It was a huge day, but sooo good.

📍My suggestion for the day trip below |

6:30am | Leave Brisbane & get on the road prior to the peak hour traffic jam

Grab coffee at a servo on the way to Gold Coast

8:30am | Breakfast in Byron Bay, Espressohead is a great option!

11:00am | Arrive at the head of the walking track

** The walk in is 1.5km return, it’s not difficult but there are steps to deal with. Meaning you can stock up on picnic supplies, a bose speaker & inflatables to make an afternoon out of it!

4:00pm | Highly suggest you leave around this time; it gets darker, quicker, because there’s loads of vegetation & the dirt track you drive in on is tough enough to manage in bright day light.

6:30pm | Dinner & a swim at Gold Coast main beach is the perfect way to end a huge day & refuel before the quick trip home to Brisbane.
